Does FUDforum support multiple domains in the following fashion:

Multiple websites, same host, different ServerRoot and sub-forum.
Going to the website goes to sub-forum.

Forums share the same usernames.
By default, Users ignore the other sub-forums. (As if they weren't there)
Board title is per site/sub-forum (perhaps theme as well)

There is an (unfinished) plugin for PHPBB that attempts to do this: http://startrekguide.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1265
It looked exciting, but with it unfinished i thought to ask here. Can FUDforum do that?

I'm aware of groups doing the equivalent thing for years without the full automation (and I assume speed) using multiple sites, etc.

Not much good will come of it I'm sure

These are for small projects. I am not expecting a large user base. But, a separate user base. Ideally, there would be a connection if it isn't intrusive.

Anyway, i'm simply curious if it is possible. Or at least some part of it.

It does not matter what the intent is, nobody intended cheap cell phones be used to co-ordinate riots, or flash mobs or explode IED's either but they do because of people.

People who will exploit every weakness they can, People who can because others fail to realize what is happening around them and why.

That does not make the idea bad, it's the use. I may not know as much about this software as some of the others but I can see pretty clearly how it could be used to approximate just about what was described in the article.

It was something quite like that which got me interested in learning what I could about how forums work.

If you understand any thing about the forums, groups, and permissions systems you should be able to see it for yourself.

So I'd say the answer is yes, it's only a matter of degrees, ease, and leverage.

Forget it. Went back to play with PHPBB.

It's a Debian package so its easier to get it up and running, and there are multiple site options, so it's got something in that direction.

I'm gonna keep FUDForum in mind though. For the few minutes i had it installed, it looked kind of nice.

Sorry to see you go, I did not mean to aggravate you; I assumed you were looking for more than just a simple yes or no answer. And think it is important for people to understand some of the perils when good things (even "exciting" things) are used by bad people.... And they will be.

At present for the "small projects" you referred to you should be able to get a reasonable facsimile result using functions that are already available in most full featured forums, it just takes a little ingenuity and coordination, a redirect something like http://fireflyforum.org which is explained here then add a few Admins, hidden groups and forums or redirects and Group leaders as appropriate.

I have used such things for private groups such as cancer survivors.

It's confusing, I know, but it is optional and you can always plan / execute your tasks manually without.

Thanx for the comments. I'm sold on the Debian package though, as FUDForum isn't a Debian package, doesn't offer the main functionality i want, and setting up anything seems to be tedious.

Nothing wrong, just the other is easier and maintained.
