Hello,
this is the error msg (after calling www./.../install.php):
"Warning: Undefined variable: _POST in /home/www/web17/html/forum3/install.php on line 183
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: version_compare() in /home/www/web17/html/forum3/install.php on line 185"
Is the filesize of install.php (only 1.230.634 b) realy ok?

I believe the PHP version you are using is too old, any version of PHP 4.1.0+ would have $_POST superglobal variable.

The 2.5.0 install & upgrade script by default use zlib compression, so the file is ~ 1/3 the size.
The 2.5.0 installer has been tested on systems with safe_mode and has worked without a problem.

The pspell extension is completely optional, the only effect of it not being enabled is that your forum will not have a spell checker. The PostgreSQL is not needed unless you want to use PostgreSQL database system.
