I understand both points. On my board I have devised a nice little system where users who want to be able to read the whole board must log in. There are a few sections that they can read anonymously but the rest of the board is closed to them. This allows me to know which users are active and which no longer read the board.

But I also feel that a user should not be deleted based on just that. Check here (local board link) to see what I feel to be the only useful option in this situation. I don't forsee it being implemented without me taking the time to write it (which won't happen, I don't fully understand the structure of this boards source) or an overwhelming desire by the whole FUD community to have such a thing.
