After upgrading to 2.5.2 from 2.3.9RC1, it shows the following:

There are members(s), invisible members and guest(s) visiting this board

We have registered user(s).

Also, the page to show what other members are doing doesn't show any members, even if there are some online.

Not so important: the upgrade deleted my theme Sad

The online stats & user counts are CACHED as is NOT LIVE. You can control caching via global control panel option.

I don't understand this new functionality at all. Is it cached now to conserve resources? What would be a good number to set for the cache time, because I have yet to see any member tallys yet.

By default the tallies are cached for 10 minutes (600 seconds) you may change this value to anything (including 0), which would completely disable tallying. On a highly trafficed forum setting it to 1 or 2 minutes will allow you to gain some performance benefits while showing mostly realtime data for the tallies if you absolutely must have it. For low traffic forums you can set the cache to 0, which will effectively disable it.
