After no reply I was most impressed that the managers of the forum replied ...!!!! AND I believe they do this to ALL postings that do not get a reply from members.

A LOT of us cannot use the install.php on our hosted space.

I would be interested to know what CORRUPT is all about and WHY it happens... MY guess as a 1st year student would be that the INSTALL.php is NOT happy with MANY of the hosted spaces. We are NOT allowing shell access ....like NOT letting us RUN an installer!!!!!!!

Can we get the LOOSE files from CVS??
Any tips or someone who doing this please advise... a FUDforum is a terrible thing to MISS!!! I LOVE it...the code is amazing!!!

THANKS...it's awesome though we can't use it on our servers as we can't install the installer!!!! Many people have said they CAN run on their home server yet not on hosted space...
the reply is often the the installer has becomne corrupt....

what's that all about...corrupt....how?

thanks truly

You assumption is wrong. Most problem has to do with people downloading the archive to a windows box where they decompress the archive. Then use their win32 ftp client to upload the install script to the server.
Somewhere in this process win32 utilities in their infinite wisdom corrupt the archive by adding \r to it.

"No-ONE I know can run installers on their hosted space..."

Bullshit, I know of thousands of sites that have installed FUDforum without any difficulty and majority of those site use shared hosting providers. Just because you are having a problem does not mean everyone else does.

If you are specifying incorrect MySQL settings changing the method through which the forum is installed is NOT going to help you 1 bit.

I LOVE a definite answer... appreciate you saying what you think.
Like I said: I WANT to be TOTALLY wrong...

-gulp- I'd better shut it and get to work then!

Thanks
