I am wanting to mirror FUD forum posts to/from a newsgroup. The Newsgroup Manager suggests that posting to/from an NNTP server requires one to have..

(1)a PHP binary (cgi/cli).

How do I find out if I have that ? Surely I must have a PHP binary if I installed FUD ?

(2)..a crontab that will import messages...

It looks like I can setup a cron job in cPanel. Am I right in thinking that I need to create a file and have it accessed by the cron command every "x" minutes ? The file being called nntp.php and be placed in the /home/user/fudforum/scripts/ directory ?

Regards, John.

1) You need to ask your hosting provider if it's installed and if so, in what directory.

2) nntp.php is already in the forum's scripts directory. CRON is just a scheduler that will periodically run it.

The file is there ? Great ? That makes things much easier. All I need is to put the path in a cron job ? Eg.

http://mydomain/forum/fudforum/scripts ?

or something like..

*/2 * * * * /home/forum/forum/scripts/nntp.php 1 ?

I don't know what */2, or the asterisks are for, or why there is the number "1" at the end

Regards, John.
