I have php CLI installed. It is at..

/usr/lib/php

I got my web hoster to setup my cron job to get newsgroup posts. Unfortunately however I get constant errors eg.

Subject: Cron <user@server> php /home/user/fudforum/scripts/nntp.php

Auto-Submitted: auto-generated
X-Cron-Env: <SHELL=/bin/sh>
X-Cron-Env: <HOME=/home/user>
X-Cron-Env: <PATH=/usr/bin:/bin>
X-Cron-Env: <LOGNAME=user>
X-Cron-Env: <USER=user>

X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.11
Content-type: text/html

Missing Forum ID Parameter.

How can this be fixed please ? This is from the bottom of my FUD newsgroup page..

Newsgroup Rule Forum Exec Line Action
newsgroup name Forum name nntp.php 1 [Edit] [Delete] [Clear Tracker]

***Notes***
The Exec Line in the table above shows the execution line that you will need to place in your system's job scheduler. It is recommended you run the script on a small interval, we recommend a 2-3 minute interval. Here is a Linux cron example:

*/2 * * * * /home/user/fudforum/scripts/nntp.php 1

Regards, John.

Remember to add the parameter (number representing the rule; probably '1' for the first rule).

Okay, thanks. I sent him that info. Now the previous errors don't occur but I keep getting error emails saying...

"Unable to establish connection to news.gmane.org on port 119 failed With Error #110 : Connection timed out"

Yet I don't get that going directly to the newsgroup with a newsreader.

Here is some of my error log in case it helps to find the problem.

[Wed Feb 03 17:36:32 2010] [error] [client 119.etc] File does not exist: /home/user/public_html/404.shtml

[Wed Feb 03 15:38:52 2010] [error] [client 202.etc] File does not exist: /home/user/public_html/404.shtml

This looks like the error I was getting previously. But in what extra directories do I put the php.ini file(s) now ?

Regards, John.

Try to increase the time-out value.

If it doesn't help, do a trace route to see what blocks it (ask your provider to help you).

Okay, now at 120 secs. Doesn't seem to have helped yet.

Does any of that help ?

I have asked my web hoster to do a trace route too.

Regards, John.

They got back to me and said...

"Port 119 has been opened for you."

Shortly after that I was able to get newsgroup posts going to my forum. But not the other way. I have no idea whether I need to tell them to do anything else.

Regards, John.
