one more after setup a few permission problems which i thought had been tested during stage 1:
Warning: fopen(....index.php) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in ....include/compiler.inc on line 514

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'Couldn't write to ....index.php.' in ....include/compiler.inc:515 Stack trace:
#0 ....include/compiler.inc(753): generate_file('root_index.tmpl')
#1 .../install.php(1166): compile_all('default', 'en')
#2 {main} thrown in ....include/compiler.inc on line 515
