Nope, it's all UTF-8.

If you use a custom header.tmpl, please ensure it correctly defines the charset as UTF-8.

in the source of the site i see "charset=ISO-8859-15" and in the header.tmpl i see "charset={CHARSET}"

where is this {CHARSET} set ?

and if i set manualy there utf-8 i have wrong chars in the messages, if i leave the ISO-8859-15 i have wrong chars in the links...

Do you have a custom theme/translation with an old "charset" file?
If so, please delete it to allow the forum to use the default thm/default/i18n/en/charset.

It depends on your theme settings.
The default is .../thm/default/i18n/en/charset.
Yours will be at .../thm/[YOUR_TEMPLATE_SET]/i18n/[YOUR_LANG]/charset.

with the off forum help of naudefj i was able to solve the problems.

first of all i had to delete an old charset definition found under /thm/default/i18n/de/charset i just deleted this file to go back to the default setting of utf-8 and rebuild the theme.

then i had to convert messages from iso-8859-15 to utf-8, for this i activated the commented out parts that can convert messages in adm/compact.php.
after that i was able to convert the messages with the admin panel (Compact Messages) from iso-8859-15 to utf-8 (don't forget to comment out again after using it).

the last part was the wrong local in the theme i had to change "de_DE" to "de_DE.UTF-8" and rebuild the theme.

many thanx for the fast and good help to naudefj

The bug was that "Re:" was hard coded and that it wouldn't have used (for example) "Aw:" when it should have.

Subject lines that start with "Re: Aw: Re: ..." is normal and expected when users with different language themes reply to the same topic. If you don't like it, you are welcome to prepare a patch.
