The existing system of storage of local avatars is not convenient.
If I want to give users a wide range of the prepared avatars (gallery), sorted on themes it is reasonable to make convenient structure of storage on a disk and the interface of a choice an avatar the user. Look as it is made in phpBB2 forum. There gallery it is organized primitively, but it solves the basic problems which arise now.

PS Where I can see fresh ToDo list?

I am not publishing an official TODO until 2.6.0 stable is out (should be soon).
That way I won't get distracted by new features Smile

However, feel free to start a new topic in 2.6.0 development forum under the auspices of a TODO list and I'll review that when I make the official one.

I for a long time want to replace a forum phpBB2 with a normal forum Smile. FUD it is pleasant to me and approaches, but it has some inconveniences and non-realized features. I can already write the remarks and offers in ToDo list in "FUDforum Suggestions" or to wait an output of the stable version? Or it is necessary to write it in the other forum?

If you have some ideas certaintly go ahead put them forward, but you probably won't get any meaningful input from me on the matter until I finish making 2.6.0 final. So, you may need to remind me about the prior suggestions should they disappear below the fold by the time 2.6.0 is released.

Ok here is what I see as far as a possible implementation.

Gallery Support:

Add an gallery flag, allowing separation of avatars into galleries.

Adding Avatars Improvement:

Allow the user specify a directory with images where to pick avatars and the forum will automatically go through the directory (recursively) adding images to the avatar list. If a directory in encountered inside the specified directory then that directory name will become a gallery name and all images inside that directory will added to that gallery.
As far as the avatar name, it will be the image name minus the extension and special chars like _, -, etc... replaced with spaces.

Do we need anything more then this?

user = main forum admin ?

Gallery should be structured. Probably even on some levels deep into.
For example,
Films
|
----Star Wars
----The Matrix
----...
Games
|
----Half-Life
----CounterStrike
----Tetris
----...
...

All of the files will still be stored inside 1 directory. To add a directory structure of images you would simply specify the full path to that directory and the forum will import images from there.

I say of not only structure of storage of files, but also structure of display of avatars at a choice the user. There too there should be a thematic structure, it is possible on some levels deep into (how in example)

There will not be a tree like structure (simply not worth the effort) for avatar groups and it does not offer any advantages unless you have literally 1000s of avatars and that probably means you've gone too far.

The avatar selection page will have a select dropdown allowing the user to pick a gallery (if there is more then one) and display all images inside that gallery. From these images the user will be able to make their selection.

As my forum unites forums on very many subjects really it is a lot of images (now approximately 5000).

It is possible to make gallery without automatic addition through the interface. I suggest addition of avatars to do manually. The administrator copies files in the special in gallery's dir necessary to it a structural kind. Then the structure of display gallery will coincide with structure of dirs (enough even 1 or 2 levels of an enclosure).

The avatar gallery support has been implemented. Structured gallery would over-complicate matters too much, hence it will not be implemented.
