yes,

after downloading:
$ file php_manual_en.html.gz
php_manual_en.html.gz: gzip compressed data, from Unix
$ gunzip php_manual_en.html.gz
$ file php_manual_en.html
php_manual_en.html: gzip compressed data, was "php-bigxhtml.html", from
Unix, last modified: Fri Dec 31 12:25:02 2010, max compression

now i'm out of options..... ;)
