Finally found out a reason why nothing was working as expected.
Syntax!
A simple little character not placed where it's supposed to be.

Now for my next trick, when another letter in the red box is clicked on,
the corresponding list for that year chosen appears.

At least using arrays make some of the coding a bit simpler.
