Well, making money may be a hard talk. It depends on wheather the
supported software
in your oppinion lives up to the standards given in industry.

I am making business software using web technology with PHP. Why web,
yeah why not.
It is difficult to argue anyway exept that it is fickle, gross and not
conforming to
standards. It sure as hell does not have the professional looking sheen that
corporate software has.

Does it work. Yeah, it does - if you will agree with me on the function
given in the
programs. It is not Java, it is HTML and HTML-forms in combination with
PHP documents
that gives the programs their functionality.

I have a website, where some of the modules are on display, and others
are optioned
for download. It is freeware so you can freely download and examine any
piece of
code. You might ask, what is so funky about something being freeware
when you want
to make money on it. Well, you can ask for a charge if given
corporation is willing
and able to pay, and even set a standard fee. That is not against the
law. However
each pay in turn - everybody should e able to aquire a webtool.

That is what they are called: Sterling WebTools(tm). And if you sell
any one of them
you are entitled to 10% of the revenue. The price is 100.000 Dkr
Standard per Unit.
What Standard and Unit means will be explained on some later occation, not now.

I do not want beady little misers. There is enough angry webhackers out
there already
we do not need to add to the calamity. Business is AD in notion and in
manner, and a
positive outlook and perspective on the world is basic.

I have not sold a thing yet, not here in my hand though, and not money
in the account
yet. But the future is blue. You might say that I have pretty little to
show for if
I have not yet sold a single copy. Point is, if I had I would not be
needing you.

Also you should look at the programs and make up your own opinion.

Ok, so sales are 10%, but I want to hack what then...

Here is the deal:

Sales 10%
Merchantiles 5%
Devastation 2%
Insulence 1%
Data 0.5%
It 0.25%

Programming 40%
Sortie 50%
Danska 60%
Norm 70%
Djengis Khan 80%
Seller 90%

How this works out may not be immediately apparant, but they are exact
terms, so it
can be settled in a court. There is a way.

Sterling WebTools(tm) can be found at the following website: www.stweto.biz

I do not intend to be a Snake, I do not think you will come very far in
business
with inequal intensions. What has to be the deal, is something that is to an
advantage of all of us.

What the court action means, is that it can be *settled* in a court of law, and
that is then considered to be a term that is to be to advantage to all
the parties
included.

There is no fake intended.

Take your snake oil somewhere else. Anything can be settled in a court
of law. The fact you even have to say that means you have snake oil.

And it's also SPAM, BTW.

BTW, I've had a very successful consulting business for 20+ years.

Sorry, but I see Jerry's point on this one.

You don't open a sales pitch by saying "so it can be settled in a court".

Such an opening implies one of the following:

a) That you intend to be dishonest with me, and expect to take me to
court.
b) That you intend to be dishonest with me, and expect me to take you to
court.
c) That you expect me to be dishonest with you, and expect to take me to
court.
d) That you expect me to be dishonest with you, and expect me to take you
to court.

Now given that I consider myself to be honest and have at the outset (1)
no intention of being dishonest with you and (2) no expectation of taking
you to court, then the only option that remains viable is (a) - you
intend to be dishonest with me, and expect to take me to court - and thus
I now assume that your terms are a bunch of legalese designed solely to
screw over anyone who enters into any sort of deal with you. Having
reached that conclusion, my wish to enter into any sort of business
arrangement with you equates pretty much with my desire to jump naked and
bleeding into a tank full of hungry piranhas.

I'm not saying this is the case, I'm saying it's the impression that your
sales pitch has given me.

Rgds

Because I say that something can be settled in a court of law, I am a bad guy?

You're just being an arsehole. When you start out with a post
threatening possible court action, you get what you ask for.

Dear Torsten,

If you reflect on this thread, and how things worked out for you, how do
you think you could have produced better results for yourself?

You suggest it will need to be settled in court.

That means one of us must be a bad guy.

I don't think I'm a bad guy.

That makes you the bad guy.

No one is saying 'need'.

It is nice to know that differences can be settled, should any occur.
You are seeing demons everywhere and expecting everyone to be a bad guy.
Also a contract in business need to be legal, one way to mke sure that
it clears a court scrutiny is to make it strict, that way there is no
misunderstandings. You do not want to stand with differences and then
have an unclear definition in the contract.

I do not suggest anything.

You're the one who started with "it can be settled in court".

You won't get any support here, even from the morons. I suggest you
take a basic business course. Your very first message destroyed any
possibility of anyone respecting you in this newsgroup - and probably
most usenet groups.

Maybe you should try a lawyer's newsgroup. They'll be glad to sue
people for you - for a price, of course.

I was wondering what this is about, so I had a look.

The web site behaves strangely, when I click on one menu button they all disappear,
except Home.

Then it does not make clear to me what you want.

Most important: it lacks any information about the responsible person. Missing
impressumer and företagsinformation can lead to court action. Seriously.

Torsten,

No disrespect but the site, as also pointed out elsewhere, is strange.

I will shortly be looking for someone to work on my self developed
website because I am far from skilled in the PHP/website development
arena. You wouldn't be considered.

Aside from that my very real dilemma is that all of Jerry, Tony, TNP,
Pointed Ears, etc show indepth knowledge of PHP but none have
convinced me 'theirs' is the best/safest way.

Given the slagging that goes on here, how can one possibly know who's
best?

I have no best way mate.

Its worth listening to WHY (if they actually explain) they think your
way is 'wrong' and if they have valid points, modifying it, but the fact
is you don't write a 1000 programmer corporate database the same way as
you write a device driver for a USB peripheral.

And people who have worked solely on the one will never have anything
relevant to say about the other.

Having worked more or less at both ends I don't involve myself in
religious narrow minded arguments except to point out that they are
ignorant narrow minded arguments.

If the other other guys apart from me have given you pause for thought,
and made things clearer, so much the better.

I am not always the best person to copy anyway: I code fast and in small
groups and the maintainer is mostly me. That may not be what you want or
need. If you are gearing code towards maintainability by lower than
average intelligence hackers like Jerry, you will need to spend far more
time commenting and writing documentation: The solution that achieves
its results in ten incomprehensible (to jerry) lines is simply no good.
You MUST use the approach that he was taught and will recognise even if
its hopelessly out of date, insecure and inefficient. IF he is the sort
of asshole that is all your company can afford to employ.

And since that is the only sort of company that ever HAS employed jerry,
you cab see that his recommendations TO that company are entirely correct.

"If you employ assholes like me you must write code FOR assholes like
me, and this is all I know".

You cant unless you are intelligent enough to use critical thinking to
assess what people say and in the context of what you are trying to do.

Otherwise your name is jerry and you simply buy a text book that tells
you what is 'right' and slavishly do it that way. And hope your next
employer didn't buy a DIFFERENT text book.

+1

Usenet gives a very limited view. With some attention you can see a little of how
people behave. But you can't know if they are productive, unless you know some of
their record.

And then, productivity is not the sum of the source lines written, but the problems
solved.

Graham,

I never said it was "my way". I use the methods advocated by
world-recognized experts like Booch.

You can easily tell a crap programmer. They make statements like "It
works, so it's correct." Good programmers know there is much more than
just making something work under the current set of circumstances.

And BTW - Tony has shown NO competence other than maybe a casual
knowledge of PHP semantics. And he is unwilling to understand why
people like Booch advocate what they do.

No, it's a bit deeper than "Popeye" comics, so I wouldn't expect you to
have read him.

Other widely recognized experts include Edward Yourdon, Bjarne
Stroustrup and Peter Coad.

But I'm not surprised that ditch diggers like TNP have never heard of
them.

My formal computer science education, at Imperial College, dates from
