I'm surprised by the low traffic in this newsgroup. PHP
is such a large player, and this newsgroup is listed on
php.net, but there are only a few messages per day here.
comp.lang.python is quite busy for instance.
Just wondering whether there is a more prolific resource
out there.
Thanks,
Tobiah

comp.lang.python is being flooded with technically wrong messages from
the Python mailing list, through a borken SMTP-to-NNTP gateway, and has
therefore become next to unreadable on Usenet.

No, you are trolling, but perhaps not intentionally.
A newsgroup is defined by the people who post there, not by those who read
it. If you do not post here, why do you expect that anyone else does? Just
ask your question here, if you have any, in the accepted way.

There are also mailing lists:
http://www.php.net/mailing-lists.php
But I guess web forums are more popular nowadays.

Or perhaps there aren't actually that many issues with the language
itself, at all?
most people have queries relating to how to nterface it to Apache..HTML,
Javascript, SQL....and those are not strictly on topic...
And the PHP site itself contains MOST answers.

As Andreas intimated, usenet as a whole seems to be dying. People
prefer web forums (which I hate). But one advantage to web forums is
the moderator can lock out trolls, which usenet can't (unless it's a
moderated group - which has even less traffic).
Some mailing lists also seem to be popular, which is why
comp.lang.python is so popular. Without it, there wouldn't be much traffic.
However, there are quite a few good programmers here who are willing to
assist you in your PHP problems.

stackoverflow seems quite popular for questions on most programming
topics nowadays but there are some of us around here who like to help.
