That was a quick hack; this is better:

$ php -r 'var_dump(implode("", array_map("chr", range(65, 90))));'
string(26) "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ"

Note how PHP's range() differs from, e.g., Python's: <http://php.net/range>
