I applied the stable 3.0.6 upgrade release to our test server. Ran a data dump and ran into a warning.

Backup progress
Backup forum files:
... backup DATA_DIR/ (0 MB)
... backup DATA_DIR/files/ (460.75 MB)
... backup DATA_DIR/sql/ (0.07 MB)
... backup DATA_DIR/thm/ (0 MB)
... backup DATA_DIR/cache/ (0.05 MB)
... backup DATA_DIR/src/ (0.58 MB)
... backup DATA_DIR/messages/ (3.27 MB)
... backup DATA_DIR/scripts/ (0.11 MB)
... backup DATA_DIR/plugins/ (0.04 MB)
WARNING: unable to open "/var/www/FUDforum/include/compiler.inc_bak" for reading.
.. backup DATA_DIR/include/ (0.34 MB)
... backup DATA_DIR/sql/sqlsrv/ (0.01 MB)

I have not encountered warnings like this before. Is my data dump valid, meaning if I restore and later try to apply a patch will I fail?

Edit: Yeah just noticed this was a backup file I must have saved off awhile back, could be the permissions but funny that I've never caught it before.

It's just a warning, you can fix the file's permissions or just ignore it.
