Hi Daniel.

The e-mail notifications work on my 2.6.6, so perhaps the problem
is a setting of yours? :-)

It sends notifications just fine on this and other forums where I tested the functionality.

I have the same problem. In my forum users can send private e-mails
and they receive an e-mail to complete the log-in, but they do not receive Notifications when there is a new message in a forum they are subscripted to.
I do not use the smtp option.

Do you have "smart notification" enabled?

No, it is not active.
Should I change this?

If it is off it should be fine.
Ask the user who is experiencing the problem to make sure all e-mail notifications settings for regular messages are enabled in their profile and they are subscribed to the topic for which they should supposedly getting notifications to.

I have an user account, and every option related to notifications is 'on'.
I have tried to change "smart notifications" to "yes" and I've been
notified that a new topic was created!!
That is more than i got before.

May be it is not related, but
just after installation I did an upgrade because some
directories (images) were missing.
