Smilies... [message #21231] Tue, 23 November 2004 01:09 Go to next message

I'm trying to disable smilies.

I went into Admin Control Pane -> Group Management, and set "enable smilies / emoticons" to "No". The permissions table at the bottom of that screen has smiley permissions set to "No" for all fora.

But still they come back.

What have I done wrong?

Vic.

You've used the admin group manager, you need to use the user-land group manager linked to from the forum's front page.

Ah, yes. That works - except that the admin account still puts graphical smilies in...

I got that Wink Does that mean it's not possible to disable smilies for the admin account, then?

The only way to disable it for the admin account is to remove all smiley images via the admin control panel.

another idea - get rid of the whole row! [message #21255 is a reply to message #21231] Tue, 23 November 2004 23:01 Go to previous messageGo to next message

I don't like so much eye candy either and I edited the template to get rid of the whole row. Feel free to visit the forum we're testing to see what a pared down interface looks like.

You can comment out the source for the rows on post_page.tmpl. I also got rid of another few annoying pieces of clutter like the text on the sidebar under Body:. That's on these two templates: post_opt_smilies_on and post_opt_images_on (if I remember correctly - poke around and you'll find it).

That looks a whole lot like what I've got so far Wink

I've had a quick hack at the templates, but TBH I don't like doing too much of that; it's all too easy to forget what you've done, & I can't really be bothered to set up CVS just to keep track of this sort of thing...

Oooh. There's an idea forming for a suggestion. I'll shut up now before I make Llia's job a bit harder *grin*
