Hi,

I was modifying my template as discussed in the sticky and (believe) I have corrupted the theme.. I now can't get FUDforum to display.

I have backed out my changes but now need to rebuild/recompile the theme again to get things back to normal. As I can't start FUDforum what's the best way to rebuild the theme...

The cause (I think) is that I was modifying files by hand and had the file ownership/perms set incorrectly so this caused an error when recompiling the theme...

Unfortunately I was working late and didn't think to backup my compiled theme before making my changes...!

thanks for any help

Mark

You should be able to login via admin control panel that is not theme based.

Just go to http://your_forum_url/adm/

Thanks - I didn't know this was an option. Interestingly this didn't work for me either (same problem)

I also found an earlier copy of the FUDforum tree so copied that across, copied in my latest GLOBALS.php and also couldn't get the forums to display...

I checked my browser cache and this doesn't seem to be the problem.

I'm just about to do a fresh install of FUDforum (see if that displays OK) and then move in my GLOBALS.php and a backup of my FUD database...

This all started with a rebuild them so I'm not completely sure why I'm still having problems having tried both of the above.

I have FUDforum backup and running.

I did a fresh install of the same release of FUDforum (2.6.Cool into a new database. I then moved in my original copy of GLOBALS.php which pointed to my original database with my original configuration settings. I then copied over the attachments from the original FUDforum/files directory.

This all seemed to work except all forums were located under a "test category". I found my categories still there in the admin control panel so stepping through each one and selecting "update" fixed that problem.

My existing forum threads were also there but they were missing all body content except for the attachment icon and description. As I'm still testing FUDforum I just deleted all threads rather than worry about recovering these for now.

The next step for me is to thouroughly work through backup/recovery/relocation and upgrade of FUDforum so this doesn't happen again !

After doing any major changes, always run the consistency checker. It usually will correct any strangeness you encounter.

Ilia,

I'll run that next time - I didn't do it this time around.

I managed to lose the forums again but this time was able to recover by using http://my-url/adm.

I caused the problem when I selected "rebuild theme" and then "optimize theme". I recovered from the problem by going directly to the adm page and running "rebuild theme" only.

Is there a problem with theme optimization in 2.6.8?

thanks again

There should not be a problem, it worked fine in my pre-2.6.8 release tests. I suspect something about the optimization caused parse errors to appear in the generated files.
