I have a problem with an administrator who can't modify her profile or other users' profiles.

In fact, she is the administrator created when the forum was first installed. By the way, are there differences between this administrator and administrators created afterwards?

It seems all other users, including other administrators and myself of course, can modify their profile.

But, when she tries to modify her profile or others' profiles, she can't do it: her password isn't accepted! However, as she told me, everything else works properly, and of course, she can log into the forum!

I've tried to look at the fud23_users table in phpMyAdmin, in order to try to see if I could find something wrong. When I compared her entry with another administrator's entry, I noticed a difference with the cat_collapse_status, custom_color and group_leader_list fields. In her entry, these fields are blank, while they have the NULL value in another administrator's entry! Could that be the problem?

Those fields should not impact the ability to change own or other people's profiles. If I understand the problem correctly, when she tries to edit a profile, after entering her password and submitting the form "invalid password" error is generated?

Could it be that the password used for logon is remembered by the browser, so is not being entered and the password manually entered on profile change page is actually incorrect?

I thought about a problem with a password manager at the first time, as I had a kind of problem like that with Mozilla just after upgrading the forum. In fact, Mozilla's password manager had stored my password properly, but it was impossible to log in: the only way was to delete the stored password, as my password wasn't accepted even if I reentered it manually!

That's why I had asked her which browser she was using, and if it had a password manager. She uses Internet Explorer under Windows, and told me she didn't use any password manager.

But, the problem is that Internet Explorer actually can remember passwords, which I didn't know before!

There is a setting in the forum, that if enabled will set a special field for password boxes preventing the password from being remembered.

The option is "Disable AutoComplete";

Well, this option was set to "No". I've set it to "Yes".

In fact, the password length was more than 16 characters!

By the way, there is another user (not an administrator) who can't modify her profile. Could it be the password length too?

She registered when the forum version was 2.3.5.

Forum passwords should always be (inside database) 32 characters long, since the forum only stores the md5 hash of the specified password. And those hashes are always the same length (32 bytes).

Thank you Ilia for your explanation.

But the problem is when you enter the password for modifying your profile, the password length is limited to 16 characters. So, if you have a password which is more than 16 characters long, you can login (it doesn't seem to be limited here), but you cannot modify your profile!

What I'd like to know is if the password length was already limited to 16 characters when registering with FUDforum 2.3.5. One thing is sure, the password length wasn't limited to 16 characters when modifying the profile!

If it quite likely that back in 2.3.5 day the password length was not limited to 16 chars. You can however very easily adjust this limit by modifying the register.tmpl template to allow the password to be >16 chars long.
