GPL does not say you cannot remove the copyright notice shown in the footer of the forum. What it does that is that you cannot move the copyright comment headers found in the source files (does not get displayed to screen).

The bottom line, if you MUST you can edit the footer and remove the:
Powered by: FUDforum 2.6.12.
Copyright �2001-2004 FUD Forum Bulletin Board Software

lines. The reason they are there is to provide a bit of advertisment to the forum, so if people like what they see that can go and download a copy for themselves.
