When I installed the 2.6.15 upgrade, I found that a lot of work I'd done modifying the forum had all been un-done. I'm still chasing down what files I'd changed so I can change them back. This includes icons I'd changed which were all changed back.

Is it possible to design upgrades to add only what's been altered or changed since the last release? I don't want to have to do everything all over again every time there's a new upgrade.

This raises another question: if a file I've modified is upgraded, and I change it back to my modified form, then I lose the upgrade for that file? That, or I'd have to pull each file from the upgrade and compare it to my modified version line by line to see if there's anything new in it?

Fortunately I kept backups of each file I modified, so It was not that difficult to re-replace them. If, when an upgrade is issued, a list of upgraded files were published here on this forum or in a text file with the upgrade archive, that would be very helpful. Then at least I'd know if I need to re-modify the new versions.

The forum only updates files that have been modified since the last release, when it does this, it makes a backup of the old file inside the errors/.backup directory.

You can manually apply changes by looking at the web cvs (timeline) and taking patches from there.

OK, it looks like I have some work to do since every file I've modified appears to have been upgraded.

I don't see icons like read.png, unread.png, existing_content.png, etc. in that backup directory, yet those got changed back during the upgrade. Why? They weren't any different than in the last release.

Where did you put your variants of the files?

I put them where they go.

I did not anticipate this. I did not keep a log of what modifications I made where, nor did I keep the PM's we exhanged on those mods. All I can do is compare each one line by line until I find the modifications I made, then make them to the upgraded versions. This is going to take me several hours at a time when I really need to be working on other things.

Here are the files I've modified which have now been upgraded:

imsg_edit.inc.t
logedin.inc.t
finduser.php.t
search_forum_sel.inc.t
tz.inc.t

Perhaps you can tell me if the upgrades done on these files are crucial enough to bother with?

I might just not do any more upgrades.

Well you can revert to old files and then look @ the history of those files in the CVS to see if you want/need any of the performed changes.
