I got bitten by the Compact Message bug and am looking at my restore options. I have a backup from yesterday of the database, and a backup of the messages from a year ago. Is there a way to mix them?

You can mix them, old messages will have their bodies, new ones will not...

Ok, this seems not to be working. I copied the old msg_1 and private files into an empty messages folder and the bodies are still not showing up. Anything else I have to do?

That's all that you need to do, keep in mind recent message will be without bodies.
