How to remove Private Messages? [message #14980]

In the continuing saga of how a webhost screwed things up, we just found out that PM's from one person's inbox are showing up on other people's inboxes. In one case, a phone number and home address was seen by people who shouldn't have seen it. Not to mention all kinds of other private messages.

We removed the feature for now and doubt that we could fix the existing data. We prefer to delete all the PMs and start over. How can I do that?

Delete all entries from the pmsg table.

I actually want to do the same thing (delete all messages older then 14days). But actually it seems like the messages are one stored in the DB and the content of them ist stored in an file called "private" in the message directory.

So removing PM's from the DB is absolutely no problem - but how to delete specific messages out of the private file?

I tried to look into the sources, bute couldn't find an entry which does the content deleting. So - I wonder - does fudForum delete the content from the "prvate" file? And if so, where can I find the function which does it?
