Hi,

For some reason the bodies of some messages disappeared. The messages now show up without contents in the forum.

I was able to restore some of the contents files in FUDforum/messages from backup, as well as run the backup scripts. I see the msg_XXXXX files with proper permission, I also see the messages in the fud26_msg table with the proper file IDs. Yet the message bodies still don't show up.

Am I missing a step?

does the file_id field in the database correspond with the msg_[number] values?

Yes, I see messages where the file_id matches a msg_XXXXX file yet the message contents doesn't show up.

Check one of the messages that is without a body and see what are its offset and length and if you can relate them to the msg file.

I'm having the exact some problem here.

Has to reinstall a full site backup because I lost everything after being hit by the "compact messages" bug.

Now all msg files have are there, but the message bodies won't show on approx. 50% of the messages.

I checked the DB and all is fine, offset, msg file ID and everything.

Any way to fix this, or should I give up on FUDforum?

When you put the backups in place, did you restore the data inside the database as well?
