Why are the bodies of messages strored in a file on the disk instead in tables in the database?

When I first used fud, I assumed, that all messages are stored in the db and got corrupted private messages and empty entries in the forums.

Is there a way to tell FUD to store everything in the db?

The reason why was explained many times, search the forum archives for it. And unless you modify the forum's source code there is no way to make message bodies be stored in DB.
