How about this feature:
when we click on 'Unread messages' link we see not messages but list of topics with unread messages and then decide read it or not ?

So you want to add an extra step into the process of reading unread messages?

Are you browsing using a cellphone? First of all if your "browser" supports compression the 200-300kb page takes only about 20-30kb.

Well, if you use Firefox you can see the headers being sent in response, and you'll see that it sends compression headers.

It works fine, verified it with telnet, Firefox apparently hides compression response headers...

Heh...
I mention this functionality not about traffic, but usability.
I'll try to make a patch but, I think Ilia can do that faster

FUDforum has something like this already:
1) Today's posts (messages posted today)
2) Unread posts (unread messages)
Both of these can be filtered using subscribed forums and/or topics to reduce it to just the messages you are interested in.

Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but, is there a patch/workaround/way to modify the code to achieve this?
To clarify, my users are interested in a list of threads that have been updated today, not interested in a list of posts.
Also, "Today's Messages" gives only a few of today's messages, not all of them. My users would like to see a list of all threads that have been updated since the last visit
Would like functionality similar to vBulletin "New Posts" or phpBB "View Unanswered Posts" : a list of threads, not a list of posts.
I don't mind coding it myself, but need some direction.
TIA

Hi Astoria - naudefj (aka Frank) is the guy who's taken the lead on the FudForum project. Development and maintenance has *far* from ceased - Frank's been on fire lately getting the new release (2.80) out, launching a FUDForum Wiki, tackling user issues and wishlist items, and getting the forums back into shape and the project galvanized back into motion. For one example, I spotted an old feature request for chat support and found a "bolt-on" solution, and Frank had hooks figured out for it within hours; requested materials turn up on the Wiki the same day. After a period of "aimless time", FUDForum's in great hands and progressing extremely quickly now.

I may have had some confusion here between Today's Messages & Unread Messages. I cannot duplicate this complaint on my end.
naudefj wrote on Wed, 11 March 2009 16:52 | If that doesn't cut it for you, you will have to develop a patch.

I appreciate any advice you may be able to provide on which file to patch, and which file may have usable code, in order to get Today's Messages & Unread Messages to show a list of threads instead of a list messages.
Thanks again!
Astoria | Salo, doesn't the new messages have a pager?
|
Sorry, can you phrase that another way? I'm not sure what it is you are asking.

Perhaps this can be achieved by adding an option in global settings to allow collapsing unread messages listing by default. This has come up several times in my community since I switched them to fudforum. I think it would require copying the collapsing code from the message view template section then adding the test and the global setting. I imagine it is more complicated than that.
