I see that FUDForum's own discussion board is falling victim to more information about shoes and other "goods" than anyone would ever need or want.

Short of charging for registration, is there anything we can do to thwart these ass-holes?

What does the "Ban" function do? Is there a way to ban "members" by IP ?

Yeah, you can ban members and IPs and even try to set a cookie on banned users.

These actually look like they come from a mail-in link so my post the other day about eliminating posts that have been flagged by Spamassassin is actually applicable to FUDForums own forums!

Unfortunately, we can't do much about it as long as the only person who can solve this (Ilia) is away. Sad

I just added a patch to my original post that drops mails piped through maillist.php that have been via Spamassassin and have X-Spam-Flag: YES

Thanks again for the comments. Maybe there is a ray of hope here.
It all sounds very technical. Questions abound. Like HOW can
you tell that a message is mailed in? Is that capability under
administrator control? Evidently Ilia is away. Do we know when
he plans to return?

In case it should be possible to send in forum posts by mail there needs to be a corresponding mailing list. FUDforum can be configured to sync with the list on a regular basis, meaning that mails will appear in the forum and and vice versa.
However, I don't know about a mailing list for this forum.

I don't know when Ilia will come back. Currently there also seems to be no activity by him on other projects he's involved in (like PHP or his blog http://ilia.ws).
