Help... upgraded forum but style changes are gone [message #4342]

I have upgraded the fud forum on my site twice now and both times the style changes I made have disappeared. The first time it took me about 2 hours to change the style back using the admin... is there an easier way?

The styles change ONLY if there has been a modification made to the layout templates of the forum. This is a pretty rare occurance that generally only occurs when upgrading between major versions.
When the style files get replaced, a backup is ALWAYS made inside the errors/.backup directory so that restoring of the style is easily done.
