I got how to attach them and i know that i can put them on an FTP server then use the img tage to have them added in to a post but my question is.

Is there a way to put a pic in a post and have it show up with out having to put it on an ftp server.

You can put them on the server Smile

I understand what you are trying to do however, you want to upload an image and then have the image displayed inside a message, correct?

The solution is a little complex, but doable non-the-less. 1st you make a post and attach an image to it. Then you copy the link to the download page from which the image can be downloaded.
The you edit the post and put that link minus the S=fdfhfkasfda potion as image url.

I did something similar to a wwwthreads installation at work. In the message display I changed the code that provided the link to the file to an <img> tag and that was it. Images display within the message body. A user can either upload an image or link to one on their own server via the ubb code. Keep in mind that the forum has to be set for ONLY image file uploads, otherwise anything else will show broken images or try to display them.

I intend to do this with my Fudforum installation as well. Protoss, could you direct me to the file which contains the code for file uploads linking in the message display? If I get it to work I'll post the hack.

This may be a suggestion to provide this ability to set this in the admin, as many forums are of a different nature than technical ones like this where actual files and hacks are shared.

the file you are looking for is src/post.php.t (at least i think that is the correct file)

and if you checked the file extention you could automatically show the picture or the attach icon for other file types
