Hi!

I'm a (very) new user of FUD (Love It!!) but have noticed something which I can't see addressed in the bug reports here.

On a workstation running XP Professional and Internet Explorer 6, I receive several annoying javascript errors which (according to Micro$ofts support screens) indicate a non-adherence to Java Standards. Whether MS have tightened up their code, or introduced something non-standard, or what, I don't know, but I suspect this problem will bother more and more people as time goes on??

Example 1 : Click on a smiley.
Result :No Smiley - Explorer reports : Error on Page.
Click on Error advice :
Line: 1
Char: 2
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
URL: http://fud.prohost.org/forum/index.php?t=post&returnto=http%3A%2F%

Example 2 : Try to create a Poll
Result : No apparent action - Explorer reports : Error on Page.
Click on Error advice :
Line: 217
Char: 1
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
URL: http://fud.prohost.org/forum/index.php?t=post&returnto=http%3A%2F%

Does this make sense? Do you want more examples?
Can I do anything else to help?

Best Regards,
Dave

I cannot seem to replicate the bug you've reported with IE 6.0.26 on Windows XP. Can anyone else please confirm this report?

No, it's definitely Professional, with all the patches.

I just had a thought - I'm running AdSubtract - wonder if that is doing it ? (Although the errors appear to be javascript)??

I'll disable it and try again...

Nope - same thing...

Hmmmmmm......

Cheers,
Dave

I think your AdSubtract program may be messing up on the javascript:// url.

Do a simple test, create an HTML file with the following content, load it in yoru browser and click on the link on the page, see if you get an error as well.

<html>
<body>
<a href="javascript://" onClick="javascript: alert('hello');">Test</a>
</body>
</html>

hmmmmm I also seem to be getting this problem Sad

I'm running IE6 on XP Pro.
When I try to click, say, 'list all smilies' nothing happens. But when I do it in IE5.5 it works. Shocked

Was this issue ever resolved??

Please do Razz

Cuz this also means I can't create polls in a new thread since the 'CREATE POLL' link doesn't work either.

Thanks

I've just checked both of the bugs reported on Windows XP using IE 6.0.2600.0000 and am unable to replicate any of the bugs you've reported.
Make sure you have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

I'll ask more people to test this bug, but so far I've only heard to complaints about this issue EVER.

I found that there is an issue with the <a> tag and how a javascript funtion is invoked.

Say you have the following:
<A class=GenLink
onclick="javascript: window_open('http://localhost/forum/index.php?t=poll&amp;rid=1&amp;S=9421d0d584e2f323db6fded8e078fd1e&amp;frm_id=1', 'poll_creator', 400, 300);"
href="javascript://">[CREATE POLL]</A>

Nothing happens when you click [CREATE POLL]. But when I changed it to this:

<A class=GenLink
href="javascript: window_open('http://localhost/forum/index.php?t=poll&amp;rid=1&amp;S=9421d0d584e2f323db6fded8e078fd1e&amp;frm_id=1', 'poll_creator', 400, 300);">[CREATE POLL]</A>

The Poll window came up fine, and this only happens in IE6. Javascript is enabled so that is not the problem.

Strage Confused

I finally found the problem. Confused

There was an external program running that was preventing pop-up windows from appearing. Rolling Eyes

I disabled it and things went fine.

Sorry for all the trouble. Embarassed
