I have two gripes with upgrading. The first is that it deleted my custom them but that's not an issue as I've created a nicer one (in my opinion anyway!). The main thing is that now e-mail notification seems to be terribly unreliable. It's just not trying to send as much e-mail as it should be. Is this a known issue and is there a resolution?
P.S. Love the forum software. So easy to configure! Well done guys.

Email notification tries to be smart to avoid flooding the user with email notifications. It will not send a notification unless the user has read the message they were previously notified about.

Private messages never result in email notications, new threads will also not result in email noticiations if you have pending notications in queue.

I do not recall the exact version when this was fixed, it was a while a back. Take a look at the release announcments dating from your older version till about 2.3.0 (I know the code was not changed since 2.3.0) and see if you can spot this change.
