Hello,
I got a very weird issue which started with with FUD 2.32 and is still lasting with 2.33. For a few days there's a new thread in one of our forums which appears twice whenever I'm logged in (with my admin privileges). It's just one single thread affected, any follow ups will be shown normal both logged in and logged out. The 2nd admin isn't affected by that issue and neither are any of the mods or users. It's just me. If I log out, that particular thread is shown once again. Any idea what could cause this issue?
Help would be greatly appreciated
bye
Ken

Hmm sounds like a VERY weird issue to me, can you try running the consistency checker, maybe it'll clear this weird message out. Since you are THE ONLY person seeing this double message, I quite honestly am buffled by what could be the cause for this.

Hi,
I've already run it a dozen time and it doesn't help. Of course two questions rising.
1. Why me and not anyone else?
2. Why that particular thread?

Some more weirdness: That thread was opened by the 2nd admin. As long as it got no replies it was shown one time for me. A new user registered and made his fist post with a reply and that seems to be the moment the thread doubled for me. As an illustration here are 2 shots of the issue:

1. That's what it looks like when logged out. nothing in particular of course Wink

http://www.rokop-security.de/main/images/misc/double-out.png

2. Once I'm logged in it will turn to that:

I'm puzzled with this Sad

Neither I replied to it nor edited I anything at all. Hope it helps.

Oops, that what happens when you got no short term memory Wink

Are the messages 'real' duplicates as in same message ids etc... or is this just a copy of the message.
If you click on the 1st message does the next/previous topic link on the message view page show a correct link or is one of the links pointing to the duplicate message?

Hi,
The duplicates and their id's are identical to each other. If I browse that thread however, they don't follow one after another. There it behaves as if there was only one thread. which means no thread if I hit next and "Karspersky Trial Version" as previous thread.
If u move one of them to another forum u automatically take the second with u as well. They're like Siamese twins in a certain way Smile

Interesting...

Does this message have any special flag set on it such as expiry date? If you edit the message and submit the changes, does the 2nd dupe dissappears or does it stick around?

To explain it more simple: It's like linking the same document on a webpage twice. No particular flag is set. Editing a message in one thread does automatically the same in the 2nd one.

I've noticed you are using a customized theme, could it be that other forum users are using a different theme?

There's one default theme for all. Before the thread was created a few days ago I ve never experienced any trouble with it. Since it's just me who's affected could it be that my account is broken?

Unlikely, there are a few reasons why. First of all the threads are drawn from the data in the threads views table, which is the same for ALL forum members, no personal profile settings could/would have an affect on that. The very same code is also used to determine the next/prev links on the message view pages, which is why I was surprised by your report that next/prev links are correct.
If you have a threaded view enabled, could you check & see if the dupe message appears on that view as well?
As well as check the 'thread_view' MySQL table for any duplicate entries by running the a query such as this:
SELECT thread_id,pos FROM {PREFIX}thread_view WHERE forum_id={FORUM_ID};

Hi.
I can't select threaded view as default. It will always use flat view instead. Only way to activate it is to toggle it when selecting a thread. Seems to be somewhat broken. Sad This also affects the global forum settings, not only those of my profile. The query didn't return any duplicates for the forum. BTW: My account is the id 1 = root account which u originally create right on setup, only that I chose a nick instead. Dunno whether this is connected with it.

Hmm you do not have an option in your profile setting that would permit selection of the tree view for both topics & topic contents? How many options then do you have for the 'Default Topic View' field in your profile?

the dropdown menus are complete. However if I set my defaults to treeview and browse a thread, it is still shown in flat view. The same is with the global setting. if someone visits the forum and the default is set to tree view its defaults still will be flat view. The only thing working is to browse each thread and switch to treeview manually by pressing the "tree view" button. In this connection, forum notify does not work properly either when u subscribed for a particular thread or forum. Any new replies posted won't trigger an e-mail. The mailer itself however is working, since u can change passwords and register using e-mail confirmation without any problems. Maybe these are shades of the same issue? Can't get a picture as a whole, though Sad

About tree view - did you allow tree views in admin panel? Since 2.3.2 (I think) it has changed and you have to explicitly set this value for this to work. I had the same problem, searched the source and found variable responsible for this. I checked in admin panel and it was there - "Allow Tree View of Thread Listing:".

I assume you've selected the 2nd option from the drop down...

The email issue has already been discussed in numerous threads, I hope you'll forgive me if I tell you to go read those threads Wink

If you want PM me the URL to the forum maybe if I can see the problem(s) first hand I'd be able to figure the reason as to why they are happening.

Hi,
if the e-mail issue has been discussed then there's no need for repeating it. Wink I sent u the data necessary, so u can look for urself.

@zapal: thnx for ur hint, seems like I missed out on this option. Will check this at another time Smile

Meanwhile I checked the global treeview setting. If everything is built as tree (threads and forums) the duplicate thread disappears and it's just one single thread as it should be Smile
However if I turn to the flat view the thread is duplicated again.

Well, at least we've isolated this to just 1 form. Could you please send me your src/msg.php.t file. On the same not, does recompiling the theme fix the problem (long shot, probably won't help, but since we are grasping at straws here, let's try it anyway Wink )
