Hi,

is there a feature to display (i.e. in the thread view) the usergroup a user belongs to? Or is the "normal" way doing some php-customizing?

Thanks for this great piece of software.

No, there is currently no way of displaying which group(s) the user is in. The user can be a part of any number of groups and this is unlikely to be of any use, considering the groups are only used to set permissions. There is hardly a point to show this information for other forum members.

I thought that I could use the user group to distinguish i.e. between "members" and "non-members" of my forum.

As I have understood I should use an additional table entry in the user table? Or a new table for those custom fields?

I think you are confusing groups & custom tags. Using the User Manager you can add custom tags to various forum users. These tags appear as part of the message author information beside each message.
