Hm, this windows encoding does only work for Windoze machines, just like windows-1252 for western encoding. This isn't very compatible to Unix machines however. I think u should use the official ISO encoding to make sure any operating system can see the letters the way they should be. Not everyone in this world uses Microsoft Windoze Wink
Just a suggestion because I made the experience on my Linux box that windows encoding has some unexpected results when it comes to special characters as ä or ö like in Swedish or German.

Ken makes a good point in this regard. Perphaps, there is some sort of a tool, that could convert windows-1252 to the equivalent ISO charset?

I'll see if I can do this using the recode utility, however since I don't speak Latvian it may be impossible for me to tell wether or not it has done the job correctly...
