I am attempting to test the import data function of FUD Forum and have yet to be successful at importing a backup that I've completed. It is not clear to me what I should enter in the field for locating the file to import within the control panel. Do I need to use the full URL of the forum to the file? The path relative to the installed location of my forum? So far everything I have tried gives me a "file not located" error.
If I want to make certain that I have a complete forum backup, is it necessary to backup the MySQL database in addition to the forum data dump? What exactly gets stored there? Thanks.

Also, is it necessary to enable compression when I perform a backup. Could this be why I am having trouble? I have turned this off in my previous attempts to backup & restore.

When I did it, it needed the full path of the import file.
example:
/tmp/FUDdatadump-12-16-02.tgz
AFAIK compression is not required, it just saves you some hard drive space at the slight expense of taking longer.

Thanks, I'll give that a try and we'll see what happens.
What about the MYSql database? Is it necessary to also do a backup of that as well separately or is the forum datadump complete by itself?

Great. So once I can figure out how to get that imported properly, that is all I will need to worry with in terms of making a complete backup of our forum?

I've gotten a little further, but not really.
Question:
Is it possible to do a datadump from a working FUDForum on a Unix server and then import the data to the same version of new FUDForum on a Windows server? Or must the server types be the same?
I tried the scenario mentioned above and was at least able to finally get the import feature on our Windows server to see the backup file, but it gave me an error saying it could not find a particular table in the database of the server I was restoring to.
I would really like to test the export/import feature in the event we need to fall back on our backup copy but so far feel really shaky about its reliability as I have not been successful in restoring it. It is highly likely there is something I'm missing out on. So to be certain, I only need the backup file to completely restore my forum, correct? The database and install location of the folder I'm restoring to should be irrelevant, right or wrong? Please help, thanks.
