I am trying to make a custom theme, all i have done so far is. I replaced the files in the directory
themes\<name of custom theme>\images
the files i replaced are, new_content.gif, existing_content.gif, tableHeaderbg.gif, tableHeaderbg3.gif
anyways, there was no problem doing that... the problem comes, when i tried using the templete editor from the admin control panel, i went to edit the forum.css section and edited link_color and visited_link i think were the names of them. Once i changed those and hit the save changes button, for some reason it keeps replacing the files of the perviously mentioned names with copies of the orignal default ones. Am I doing something totally wrong when it comes to making a custom templete or something? Or should i just edit the forum.css by hand and not be using the one form the control panel?

You should've changed the images inside thm/default/i18n/language_of_choice/images
then after recompiling the theme the new images you've uploaded would appear.

You can have as many custom themes for a forum as you like.
Each theme will have it's own set of images.
