Memory issue installing [message #8426]

I got the following error when trying to run install.php on my hosting service. Would this be a server configuration issue?? Or something else.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1178072 bytes) in Unknown on line 0

Using FUDforum 2.7.3

OK, I've discovered that my web hosting service has set a PHP variable memory_limit to 8MB. Is the 20MB that FUDforum tries to allocate on installation required to operate?? Or is it just for installation. I can get them to change it for the installation but not for operations.

The 'high' memory usage is going to occur only during the installation process.
