I am up and running on freebsd, apache2, with php4 and info.php works. Install step 2 results in 'Call to undefined function: gzuncompress() in /wwwroot/htdocs/install.php on line 317'. I have re-installed everything but I'm new to php and cannot find this error. Please help.

It sounds like you are using the compression enabled install script, get the one from the download page (it does not use compression).
