Ok, thanks. Also, the ISP disabled safe mode php during the install so I could create & use my own directories. Would it be ok for them to enable it again now the FUD forum is installed? - they're a bit concerned about hackers.

That should be fine. Keep in mind safe_mode would protect you against no more then a wool blanket infront of your eyes.
