Assuming the list is a string or array, and that I have correctly
understood the requirement:

$destination = preg_replace("/[#*]+/g","",$source);
// $destination contains the modified version of $source
?>

or:

<?php
$source = preg_replace("/[#*]+/g","",$source);
// $source is replaced with filtered $source
?>
