There is nothing silly about it. Posting with one's full name is customary
in Usenet. Because 1. it is basically polite to introduce oneself to
strangers using one's full name (before asking for their help, and consuming
their free time), and 2. there is more than one “Mike S” and more than one
“Richard” out there; omitting the full name (first and last name) leads to
confusion. Some people, like me, also insert their nickname to avoid
confusion if even the full name does not suffice; others insert their second
name in abbreviated form. Read RFCs 1855, 5536, and several Usenet guides.
