My forum has gone blank: an old structure of forums and categories appear with NO posts. I tried checking and repairing the database via my host's cpanel with the same result. I am able to log on to the forum as admin and access the admin control panel. Should I run the forum consistency function (I'm afraid to do too much until I know what I SHOULD do)? Any help greatly appreciated.

Forum is (WAS!) at http://www.coastguides.com/forum/index.php?channel=coastguides.com

In admin control panel error messages, I get many errors that read similar to this, starting on the 12th:

(t=getfile&id=22&rid=&S=07c2f9360ded5050e4e84e462a0bac4e) 1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1
Query: SELECT * FROM fud23_group_cache WHERE user_id=0 AND resource_type='forum' AND resource_id=
Server Version: 4.1.18-standard

Try running the consistency checker, it is a fairly safe action to take.

Hi Illia,

Thank you. I ran the consistency check, and now post appear but only posts up to 2002 and in a forum/category structure from that period. I'm particulary worried about these lines in the consistency check, which sounds like a deletion of all the entries from 2002 forward:

Checking read table against users
1654 entries unmatched, deleted
Checking read table against topics/messages
235 entries unmatched, deleted
Checking file attachments against messages
160 Bad Attachments removed

The big deletions occured from the "read" table, which is fine it won't affect message removal. This table is used to store read/unread indicators for messages. The entries removed didn't have associated messages/topics to them.

Thank you for your help. That's a huge relief! But I still need to reserect my forum to include all messages up to present. What's the next step?

The newer posts, were they in a specific forum or all over?

The newer posts were in two forums, and in a different category setup. There is a running copy of this setup through March 24, 2006 at http://www.mainecoastguide.com/forum/index.php?channel=coastguides.com

My worst case scemario is that I start from here, but I'm hoping to salvge the postings since then.

Yes, both forums are active. I can log onto the one that has reverted back to 2002 and it seems as though I could post to it (but I don't want to do this and confuse the database even more).

Try to check the fud26_msg table to see if you have message in the post 2002 date range.

How do I check messages in the Fud26_msg table? From the admin control panel? I don't seem to be able to open any of my forums subfolders via my FTP sopftware.

My forum statistics show no posts from 2002 onward, but the error log viewer shows errors for all the years between 2002 and present.

Here's another clue:

I couldn't access the forum files becasue they were locked. When I unlocked them via the admin control panel, I got a long list of errors like this (but the files did get unlocked):

ERROR: /home/coastgui/public_html/forum/thm/New2/tmpl/header.tmpl -> f (777)
ERROR: /home/coastgui/public_html/forum/thm/New2/images/youarehere.gif -> f (777)
ERROR: /home/coastgui/public_html/forum/include2 -> d (777)
ERROR: /home/coastgui/public_html/forum/include2/adm.inc -> f (777)
ERROR: /home/coastgui/public_html/forum/include2/announce_adm.inc -> f (777)
ERROR: /home/coastgui/public_html/forum/include2/cfg.inc -> f (777)

This is a MySQL table, so you can use any mysql client to access its contents.
