What default settings in the admin panel do I need to have set (if this is even possible) to have guests and registered members view everything across the board this way ??

Also, how complex would it be to 'comment' out the flat-view buttons in the upper-right and how/where would I do this?

The reason I ask this is a site I am doing for a client needs to be 100% threaded view and I can't seem to get this setup this way by default.

Any help is appreciated.

Hmmm....

In the admin panel the option you are looking for is:
Default Topic View

As far as dis-allowing flat view, you'll need to modify 4 templates & 1 source code file.
The templates being thread.tmpl, threadt.tmpl, tree.tmpl, msg.tmpl and the source file being register.php.t
