I just switched to FUD from phpbb2 and so far, I like it much better. It was super easy to install and I had much less trouble customizing the look than I did with phpbb2.

About compression...I'm completely clueless on what to do. In phpbb2, there was an option to turn on gzip and that was it. In the admin control panel for FUD it talks about php compression and enabling compression on the server side. I have no idea what the difference would be or how any of it works.

Is there someone who could give me a rundown on the different types of compression available and opinions on what is best? If it helps, my web server is running Apache 1.3.27 and PHP 4.3.2 on a UNIX box.

My other question is...in phpbb2, on the main page of the admin control panel, there is a table that lists all the users that are currently online - both members and guests and their IP's. I haven't been able to find a similar feature in FUD, am I just missing it?

BTW, the main reason I switched was because my users wanted a "threaded" view as an option. Most developers seem to feel that look is antiquated, but there are obviously alot of users out there that still like it - so thanks for providing such a beast!

Any help on my questions is much appreciated.

The compression option in FUDforum's admin control panel does exactly the same thing compression option does in phpBB2. However, for better performance I recommend using Apache's mod_gzip module that can do a better job @ compressing data then PHP's own compression mechanism.
