.... I could have sworn I saw a switchable option somewhere that prevents threads moving to the top of the form when a reply is posted.

I am imagining this.

Board is v. 2.7.6

There is no such option, you can however patch the code to behave in this fashion. Search the forum archives for examples & tips.

Just done a search, and all I can find on the subject is multiple questions from people and answers from you saying that it's not necessary! Laughing

You need to adjust the topic order rebuilding query in rebuild_forum_view_ttl() function found inside th_adm.inc.t
